About Picture to Text
picturetotext.app is a free online converter that turns images into finished files — not just a wall of raw OCR text. You drop in a photo or screenshot, pick what you want, and get the thing itself: an editable Word document, a multi-sheet Excel workbook, a translated image with the text replaced in place, clean study notes, or structured invoice fields.
01What it does
- Extract text from photos, screenshots and scans — including handwriting.
- Convert document photos to Word (.docx) with headings, paragraphs and tables preserved.
- Turn photographed tables, invoices and receipts into Excel (.xlsx) or CSV, with an editable preview.
- Translate images in place — the original text is erased and the translation typeset back into the picture.
- Edit text on images, extract invoice fields, turn book pages into study notes.
- Batch up to 20 images into one merged document, workbook or ZIP.
02How it works
A layout-aware AI OCR model reads the structure of the page — not just the characters — and a language model handles translation and restructuring where the goal needs it. The finished file is then built entirely in your browser: our servers never store your documents, and everything transient is deleted on a timer (see the privacy policy).
03Free during beta
Everything on the site is free while we're in beta. Anonymous use has a small daily limit on the heavier AI engines; signing in (free) raises it and unlocks batch mode. There is no paid tier today.
